Wow. What a privilege to read this. This journey, and this part of it, feels so enormous. The photos made the post even more incredible.

This is a really moving post. Although I have not had breast cancer or reconstruction, I know many women who have, and they have not talked much about what it was like. Your description helped me understand the surgery and healing process. Thank you for that. I hope you continue to feel better.

Hi Alison,

Healing is a long process. I would even say, it's a life-long one. The emotional part anyway. I still sometimes second guess my decision(s) about reconstruction. I've had implants and DIEP flap surgeries and the questions, the healing, and yes, the grieving continue. Be kind and gentle with yourself. Your feelings might fluctuate for a long time, and this is completely normal. Sending healing thoughts and gentle hugs.

Thank you for sharing. I’m starting the first step in my reconstruction in a couple of weeks and I’m definitely nervous. It helps to hear stories from others.
